My name is Kristen, and I'm currently living in Bellefonte in a 1 bedroom apartment. I'm looking to move to State College to be closer to my job and looking for a 2 bedroom apartment to share with a roommate in order to make this move affordable. I graduated from Penn State in 2007 and am currently working as a paraprofessional (similar to a teacher's aide) for the State College Area School District. I have two cats who are both friendly and independent. I have attended various churches in the area in the past and am looking to get more involved with a church again. Hesser Rentals (814-571-0067) has an unexpected vacancy at 118 E. Curtin St. Apt 2.--a terrific upstairs apartment on a quiet street of beautiful old homes in Bellefonte. The ad should be in the current newspaper. The apartment takes up all of the second floor (so it seems a little more like a house than a randomly carved-up apartment) and has a huge living room, hardwood floors throughout, two bedrooms, one bathroom, a dining room, a kitchen with lots of cupboards, and a screened-in porch. There's a washer and a drier in the basement (shared with the first floor tenants). The rent will probably be around $700 (I'm not sure). You would pay for electric, heat, and cable. The landlady pays for water, sewage, and garbage. There's one parking spot in the alley and plentiful free parking on both sides of the street. There is also a CATA bus stop about two blocks away.

My wife and I live in the downstairs apartment. Between us, we've rented from six different rental companies since coming to Penn State, and our current landlady has been our best by far--reasonable, conscientous, gets things fixed right away."

As some of you may know, some ThirdPlacers will be coming to inner-city Philadelphia this weekend (November 19-21) to participate in 2 service projects. This is the first of hopefully many more service opportunities in Philly as ThirdPlace looks to build relationships with organizations there that could use more regular help.

This weekend we will be serving at a ShopRite in South Philadelphia packing boxes of Thanksgiving dinners to black families in the area. Due to a high degree of racial tension in South Philadelphia between Korean families and Black families, a number of Korean grocers have refused to sell Thanksgiving dinners to black families in the neighborhood. To try to combat that injustice, the Urban Affairs Coalition and the Brown family who owns the ShopRite are trying to give out at least 1000 meals over the holiday season.

Our second service project will be at a shelter for Women and Children who are trying to escape domestic violence. We will be cleaning up and organizing their community room/library and also making Thanksgiving baskets with and for the 29 families in the home. We need the following donations:
- 30 paper bags (gift bag size)
- Makers, crayons, or colored pencils
- Feathers
- Glue
- Scissors or hole punches (or other fun craft-like things)
- Candy
- Fun Dollar Store Items (Notebooks, toys, school supplies, etc)
- Small bottles or hand sanitizer or lotion
- Anything else you think a mom or kid would feel blessed by around Thanksgiving

If you have any of these items or would like to make a donation, please either drop them off at Harvest Fields in Lois Abdelmalek's office or contact Noel Habashy at noel.habashy@gmail.com before November 19th (Friday).

Arts Fest Volunteers needed for Community Help Centre's drink stand

All of the donations that are received go to support the many programs that the Community Help Centre provides for the community.

The stand is open for all of the hours that the Arts Fest is running:

Wed, July 7th 9am - 4pm
Thurs, July 9th 9am - 9pm
Fri, July 10th 9am - 9pm
Sat, July 11th 9am - 9pm
Sun, July 12th 9am - 5pm

Most help is needed in the evenings (after 4pm) and on Saturday. We need to have a minimum of 2 people working at all times. If you'd like to sign up with a partner, that will work great or I can pair you with another one of our volunteers.

There is a bit of heavy lifting to do in terms of refilling our coolers when they are empty. We are mostly interested in having friendly volunteers who will smile and say thank you and keep drinks cold and available.

Please let me know how many hours you are willing to do in total as well as what times you are available. I will then do my best to fit you in to a time that works well for you and for us.

There is a large living space, large kitchen, 1 bathroom, 2 bedrooms (1 big, 1 little), and a porch/yard. Service Opportunity at the YMCA: Help w/Underwater Egg Hunt!

The YMCA needs 5 adult volunteers to help with their Underwater Egg Hunt on April 2 & 3rd. Volunteers will be stationed at the egg table (you will open eggs to see if prize tickets are inside, and also pass out a gift bag to each participant), the prize table (you will receive prize tickets and pass out the corresponding prize bag), or at the floatation table (handing out lifejackets). The event is spread over 2 days. April 2nd will need people from 4:30pm to 6:45pm and on April 3rd will need them from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

Help with set-up & tear-down for Good Friday event

Each year for past few years we've hosted an event at Calvary that has been very meaningful in the lives of people who call Calvary their church home and for many others in the community. On Good Friday we open the church building all day long for people to be able to go through a series of unique and personal prayer events that follow through the final hours of Christ's life leading up to the crucifixion. Each year some of the prayer stations remain the same and a few of them change in order to keep pieces of the experience fresh.

Because these prayer stations are set up all over the building we need lots of hands on Thursday evening (following our Maundy Thursday service - Approx. 8:30pm) to set up each station and get things ready to roll when the doors open on Friday morning. We also have a great need for lots of hands again on Friday evening when it's time to tear down everything, clean up behind ourselves and make each room look "normal".

If any of you would be willing to come out and help it would be greatly appreciated! Please reply with a quick e-mail to let Kim Dick know if you plan to jump in on Thursday at 8:30pm to help with set up or on Friday at 9pm to help with tear down. We'll join together in prayer that morning in Fellowship Hall at 1250 University Drive for a time of worship and corporate prayer from 8:30am-9:30am. Then we will break off for a time of reflection and solitude and you can go wherever you want (indoors or outdoors) and find some time to pray, journal, paint, sing...whatever you prefer! (9:30am-11:00am). We will come together then at 11:00am in Fellowship Hall for a time of sharing, corporate worship and prayer. There will be some prayer guides made available to help better guide your time alone; feel free to use them or do your own thing. CityServe Project Leaders Needed

CityServe is a multi-church initiative to serve the Centre Region! This year will be the 3rd annual CityServe weekend. In the past we've been able to complete many projects including building a handicap accessibility ramp, cleaning for the elderly, assisting local human resource organizations with yard work, visiting residents in local nursing homes, and painting projects, etc. CityServe is right around the corner (April 17 & 18) and we need YOU! We cancel Church services that weekend and we go and BE the Church!

Basically, you have two teams with a bunch of brooms and balls...everyone is on the ice with sneakers on and you try to get as many of your pucks in the other teams nets...it's a bizarre ice sport, but we think it's fabulous!! I know it's late, but that's part of the experience (it's always a late night event because it takes them some time to get the rink broomball ready!). Brainstorming began among the State Theatre Film Collective of a film or collection of films to pique the interest of community movie-goers. At this time it was shortly after Easter and the thought of religion in film was brought to the table. There are many community members that are interested in the topic of religion.
We think these movies will appeal to a broad audience, not just those sitting in pews or congregations but also film buffs and cultural critics among us.

Shows begin at 7 pm.
There will be a 10 minute 'debrief' followed by a 30-40 minute Q & A for each selection.

We have seen God do incredible things in and through the ThirdPlace community. It is our desire to stop and celebrate the great things that God is doing!

The celebration will be an intimate, relaxed, out-door setting at Harvest Fields, at the top of the hill. We'll be spending time together while enjoying appetizers and desserts, with live music in the background and the beauty of the Harvest Fields land before us! Following that, we will have a time of sharing ... a time to encourage one another with what God is doing in and through us all. There will also be a time of worship and prayer at the end of the evening to specifically bless and pray for people transitioning to another stage in their lives (couples who are newly engaged or married, people moving to different locations, people going on short term missions trips, etc.).

We want to bless people as they transition....so if you are leaving State College, or just transitioning in some way, we'd love, LOVE to share, pray for you, and celebrate you! It will be a time for all of us to come together, to encourage one another, and celebrate together!

Blue Knob Ski Trip tomorrow!!

The new game plan is to meet up at 1250 on Saturday, January 30th at 8:15am. We will carpool from there. We will play it by ear, but I think the majority will want to ski all day. However, with several cars, some may be leave earlier.

Haiti Relief: Donations being collected at the Marriott!

"On January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. Thousands of disaster victims need help rebuilding their lives and communities. Many people have gone missing, and those that remain have no place to live, sleep or bathe. Basic supplies are what are needed the most at this time, including:

o Clothing
o Towels
o Linen and Bedding
o Hygiene Basics

We are blessed to have these resources right in our own homes! Look through your homes for those old clothes and toiletries you've been meaning to get rid of and worn-out towels and linens that can be put
to good use again for those in need.

We will gather all of our donations and send them to Rebecca Gabriel, General Manager of the West Palm Beach Courtyard by Marriott. Rebecca
has developed this support-drive, as she and many other associates of the WPB Courtyard had many loved ones affected by the tragedy. Rebecca and her team will distribute the supplies to those in need.

The State College Marriott is collecting all of our supplies now through the next two months (or until people are able to send things into Haiti). You can drop things off at: 1555 University Drive

They'll be collecting for a few weeks at least. Thanks again for your help! "

Benefit concert for Haiti at Christ Community Church at 6:00 pm. Come and support Haiti during a great time of need. You can designate your gifts to relief effort at the concert. For more info, please contact Cindy Way: cindyway@graceprep.com

We will be providing people an opportunity to give to ...Haiti relief this
weekend at Calvary. So all cash and checks with Haiti Hope in the memo will be given to Haiti relief.

Two places that we will mostly likely send the support to are:

Through GAIN: they are in a position to send 500,000 meals to Haiti fairly quickly but they need the shipping money.

Haiti Hope Fund: collect funds that will go to help the people of Port-au-Prince.

Christmas Unwrapped

The focus of this year's Christmas Unwrapped will be on serving local families through Angel Tree Ministries, Adopt-a-Family, and a silent auction (all money raised through the silent auction will go toward needy families in the area). This is a Calvary-wide event and should for fun for people of all ages.

2:30 - 3:30PM: Christmas carol sing-along and short, interactive drama.

3:30 - 5:30PM: There will be several activity stations including: Holy Family Photo Shop (nativity family pictures), Countdown to Jesus' Birthday (take-home craft activities), Cookie Decorating Shop (taffy pulling, cookie decorating, and gingerbread house making), Jesus' Birthday Party Palace (kid-friendly games - races, charades, etc.), and Christmas karaoke. There will also be an "open room" for adult games...Christmas charades, Pictionary, and other board games.

6:30 - 8:30PM: There will be a showing of the Christmas movie, ELF following Christmas Unwrapped on Sunday, Dec. 6th. Movie and pizza is for Christmas Unwrapped volunteers as well as for ThirdPlacers and college students. The movie will begin as close to 6:30 pm as possible at 1250 University Drive, depending on clean-up time.

If you would kindly reply to KENDRA GETTIG at kendragettig@yahoo.com and let her know if you'll be joining us for pizza, it would be helpful and greatly appreciated!!

Please feel free to bring blankets, pillows, or other chairs...we're hoping for a comfy night of watching a Christmas movie together!

With guest facilitators Dave and Cathy Bowman, the prayer retreat will be a unified time of corporate prayer and worship combined with solitude and time for reflection and connecting with God! A time to connect with God, with others, be encouraged and unified, and pray on the behalf of others! The schedule for the day is as follows:
* 8:30am-9:30am: Corporate prayer/worship.
* 9:30am-11:00am: Personal connection time with God. Solitude and Reflection.
* 11:00am-12:30pm: Group sharing/encouragement, along with corporate worship and prayer.
