Thought Provoking Theatre:
Films that will spur on great conversation and dialogue, raise awareness, educate, and get us thinking!
Premiere of this initiative, this Saturday, April 4th at 7:30pm at Noel, Dan, and Luke’s place: 130 Farmstead Lane Apt. 204 (please park on Farmstead lane and walk to the apt.)

Our Premiere film will be War Dance. The film is about three children living in a displacement camp in northern Uganda who compete in their country's national music and dance festival. In the midst of the war, there’s still music.

ThirdPlace Prayer Retreat
Saturday, April 11th at 8:30am-12:30pm at Harvest Fields:
With guest facilitator Pete Cannizzaro, the prayer retreat will be a unified time of corporate prayer and worship combined with solitude and time for reflection and connecting with God!

We'll join together in prayer that morning in the Log Room at Harvest Fields for a time of worship and corporate prayer from 8:30am-9:30am. Then we will break off for a time of reflection and solitude and you can go wherever you want (indoors or outdoors) and find some time to pray, journal, paint, sing...whatever you prefer! (9:30am-11:00am). We will come together then at 11:00am in the Log Room for a time of sharing, corporate worship and prayer. There will be some prayer guides made available to help better guide your time alone; feel free to use them or do your own thing. Bring whatever supplies you’ll need (journal, paints, music, etc) and join us for an exciting time to “unite in prayer” for the World, our community, and each other!

Don’t miss this opportunity, it’s a great way to connect with God and others! Breakfast, coffee, and tea will be provided :)

Service Opportunity:

April 18-19 is CityServe Weekend: Last year 2 congregations joined together for 2 days as 619 people served 2447 hours on 83 projects. This year the numbers start with 6 congregations. On Saturday and Sunday April 18 & 19, we are going into the community to do simple acts of service – walk the pathway of blessing and let the love of Jesus loose in the Centre Region. Instead of having church we are going to be the church. Instead of going to church, the church is going to the community. So don’t show up at any of Calvary’s worship gatherings. Led by our multi-church planning team we will be serving people in our area by meeting tangible needs. We will be demonstrating acts of kindness to encourage and uplift others in our community. That’s what CityServe is all about.

If you know of a person or organization that could be a CityServe opportunity, please go to http://www.sc-cityserve.org ASAP and complete the project proposal form. If you wish to discuss your proposal prior to submitting it, please contact Bob Barbash at bob@calvarysc.org or 238-0822, ext. 17.

On March 28th, the online catalog of projects will be available and registration will begin for all churches involved in CityServe. Computers will be available at each gathering to sign up for a project. A printed catalog listing all the service opportunities will be available for your review. You can register online at home as well. The CityServe Planning Team encourages everyone to register online as early as possible. Projects will fill quickly as hundreds of people sign up to serve our community.

A feature-length documentary that tells the remarkable, yet little-known, story of Frncisca Halamajowa, a Polish-Catholic woman who saved 16 Jews during the Holocaust by passing herself off as a Nazi sympathizer. The special screening will be held at 2 p.m. at the State Theatre, on 130 West College Ave. in State College, PA.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 (7:00pm - 9:00pm,112 Walker Building, University Park)- Carl Wilkens: Eyewitness to Genocide, The World Outside My Shoes
The only American to choose to stay in Rwanda after the genocide began in April 1994, Carl Wilkens prevented the massacre of hundreds of children and many adults over the course of the genocide. Featured in Frontline’s Ghosts of Rwanda and The Few Who Stayed: Defying Genocide, an American Radio Works documentary that aired on NPR, Wilkens’ story reminds us of the profound connection between history and the moral choices we face each day.

The continuing genocide in Darfur Sudan has prompted Wilkens’ multi-city tour in which he asks the questions that challenge audiences to see the human faces of genocide and explores the question: “What can we do today to stop the genocide in Darfur Sudan?”
