Eyeglasses Needed for the Philippines
Do you have extra eyeglasses—reading or prescription—laying around? On Monday morning, Chris Heinz and his family are going to the Philippines. They’re working with a pastor who ministers to people in the slums of Manila. One of the felt needs is for eyeglasses. If you can donate eyeglasses, there are two drop-off locations, which are available until 6 pm on Sunday: Good Steward Software, 110 Radnor Road, Suite 101, State College; or 1433 East Park Hills Ave, State College. El Dia del Futbol- Part "Dos"
Little children all around the world play every day. Conditioned athletes take a day off per year. Think you've had enough soccer with ThirdPlace's canceled "Torneo de Futbol"? Think again - this sport doesn't stop.
When: This Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 1:00-5:30 PM
Where: Harvest Fields
What: Primary event: soccer. We will have a "pick up" style that is more conducive to any level of soccer ability. So come on out and play! You can enjoy a variety of foods, friends, and other backyard activities like Frisbee, bocci, volleyball, hide and seek, etc.
What else: Bring some food and/or drink with you! We'll provide orange slices :)

Thought Provoking Theatre: Saturday, September 12, 2009 -- 7:30pm
TPT is something that began to allow us to creatively engage in social issues & begin thinking/talking about some of these things. We feature a film that raises awareness on a social cause or issue and we then discuss how this can be applied to our lives, etc.
This Saturday we will be watching the movie De Nadie. This documentary chronicles the journeys of several Central Americans as they attempt to enter the United States illegally. It highlights the journey, plight, and struggle that are very common for people searching for a better life for them and their family. >From SOUTH & EAST: Take Rte 322 west from Lewistown towards State College. The entrance to Harvest Fields is about ½mile past Elk’s Club Golf Course (you can see Tussey Ski slope on left). There are a few two-story apartments on the right side of 322 at Jack’s Mill Drive. Just after you pass these apartments (Centre Estates), you will see the gravel entrance to Harvest Fields on the left. Because this is a ‘right turn entrance in/exit out only’ you will need to continue past the entrance to turn around. To turn around-- bear right as 322 splits between Business & Bypass. Go under the over-pass. Take your first left after the over-pass (it comes quick!). Turn left and left again so the Boalsburg Technology Park will be on your right.***
From NORTH & EAST: From I-80 to Bellefonte exit #24, then Rte 26 south to State College. Two miles past Nittany Mall go east on Rte322 Expressway. Follow directions from North/West below...

Continue for approximately 3.5 miles (through Boalsburg, past the Boalsburg Technology Park on right), at which point the US-322 E expressway and business route merge. After the merge, the entrance to Harvest Fields is just ahead on the right (~ 150 yards).***
***As the 2 roads marge, slow down & move onto the right shoulder. As you approach, you will see a line of trees on the RIGHT running perpendicular to the road; these run along both sides of the driveway. The gravel entrance is near a black mailbox with a small white sign "Harvest Fields and Calvary Offices." [If, as you continue driving east, you pass Centre Estates Jack’s Mill Drive, Elk’s Club Golf Course or Tussey Mountain Ski Area sign, you have gone too far.] After you turn into gravel entrance, follow the lane to the top of the hill. August Event: El Ultimo Torneo de Futbol (The Ultimate Soccer Tournament)
The ThirdPlace August Event will be a Soccer Tournament and it will not be on the First Friday, but on Sunday, August 2nd!!

What more could you ask for? Rich in culture, impassioned fans world wide, brutally fierce competition, I'm talking about the only sport where game clock doesn't stop, even for a death on the field: Soccer. Futbol, Football, Calcio. It's played around the world, even in State College.
That's just the beginning. Now add in a team of your favorite ThirdPlace friends, mix it up with some insane competition against your other favorite ThirdPlacers. Top that off with a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Circleville Park in State College, PA. What you get is nothing shy of a great time. It's the First Annual (TBD) ThirdPlace Soccer Tournament.

Rules:
Basic rules for 6 v. 6 play:
1. The Game
a. Subject to the number of teams, the game shall consist of 2 15-minute halves.
b. In the tournament bracket, overtime shall be two additional 5-minute halves.
c. Should the game still be tied, penalty kicks (PKs) will determine the winner. Five kickers will be initially chosen, and if more are needed to break the tie, it shall be done one-by-one until a winner is determined.
2. Players
a. There shall be 6 players on the field for each team. This includes 5 “field” players and one goalkeeper.
b. At least one player from each gender must be on the field at any given time for each team. Exceptions can be discussed with Organizer.
c. The goalkeeper is the only player on the field permitted to use his hands.
d. Any player is only permitted to play for one team for the duration of the tournament. Trading, bartering, kidnapping, etc. will end at the sound of the first whistle.
3. Offsides
a. There is no offsides in 6 v. 6 play. Therefore, “cherry picking” shall be used upon the discretion of any given team.
4. Out of bounds
a. The entirety ball must cross the sideline before it is considered to be out of bounds. A kick in shall result at the point where the ball crossed the line.
b. Should the entirety of the ball cross the end line but not be within the frame of the goal, the result shall be a goal kick (a kick to be taken by the defending team) or a corner kick (to be taken by the offensive team).
c. If the entirety of the ball crosses the goal line within the frame of the goal, this counts for ONE point for the offensive team, regardless of where the ball was kicked from (e.g. there are no “2-point kicks”).
5. Handball
a. Should any player (EXCEPT the goalkeeper inside his/her own goal box) touch the ball with his/her hand, this shall result in a “free kick” for the other team at the spot of the foul.
b. A handball inside the goalkeeper’s box (of your own team) shall result in a PK.
6. Referees, fouls, etc.
a. There shall be at least one referee officiating each game, and all fouls are subject to referee’s discretion.
b. All fouls (Exception: see (d)) will result in an indirect kick from where the foul was committed). This means that the ball must touch at least one other person before entering the goal after an indirect kick.
c. Should a referee not see a foul, teams are encouraged to play with utmost sportsmanship and call their own foul.
d. Any serious foul called inside your own goalkeeper’s box will result in a PK. This kick is a direct kick, meaning the ball may enter the goal without touching any other player except the kicker (obviously).

We'll join together in prayer that morning in the Log Room at Harvest Fields for a time of worship and corporate prayer from 8:30am-9:30am. Then we will break off for a time of reflection and solitude and you can go wherever you want (indoors or outdoors) and find some time to pray, journal, paint, sing...whatever you prefer! (9:30am-11:00am). We will come together then at 11:00am in the Log Room for a time of sharing, corporate worship and prayer. There will be some prayer guides made available to help better guide your time alone; feel free to use them or do your own thing. Bring whatever supplies you’ll need (journal, paints, music, etc) and join us for an exciting time to “unite in prayer” for the World, our community, and each other!
